Shadow-walkers is a Nagarythe (a High Elves faction) unit introduced in the Resurgent Update for Total War: Warhammer II.

In Shadow of War, you'll find that many Overlords, Warchiefs, Captains, and leaders of Sauron's Forces come with randomized Strengths and Weaknesses. This will also extend to any that you take.

Faction war for honor

Description[editedit source]

Bands of Shadow Warriors are often led by the most capable of their kin, known as Shadow-walkers. To reach the rank of Shadow-walker an Elf must have hundreds of years in the field under his cape and have proven to be utterly dedicated to Nagarythe’s cause. Compared to other High Elves, they are merciless, cold and callous - almost indistinguishable from the Druchii they hunt. They are unquestioningly loyal to their king, and as such, will form Alith Anar’s elite retinue on occasions when he is forced into open battle.

Abilities[editedit source]

  • Good Range: This unit has a larger range than most other units of the same class. This allows it to take out hostile missile units before they can come into firing range.
  • Master Ambusher: This unit can move whilst hidden in any terrain, firing in any direction even whilst running!
  • Stalk: This unit can move hidden in any terrain.
  • Vanguard Deployment: This unit can deploy in an expanded deployment area, allowing it to start the battle within striking distance of the enemy - or somewhere unexpected.

Strategy[editedit source]

Exclusively deployed by Nagarythe, these are Alith Anars signature units. They are an even more powerful (and more expensive) version of Shadow Warriors, gaining poison damage on all their melee and ranged attacks as well as a strong bonus vs infantry in melee. Although their unit size is smaller than regular Shadow Warriors, there is no better skirmisher infantry in the High Elves´ roster. Due to their hidden movement and vanguard deployment, they can ambush exposed enemy units (unprotected artillery crews, lone mages), kite enemy infantry or move around the flanks after the frontlines clash to fire into the engaged infantry from the sides or behind, where their shields cannot effectively protect them. Make sure enemy cavalry and other fast units are tied down before attempting such a maneuver. Their weaknesses are much the same as regular Shadow Warriors: their weak armor means they cannot last long in shooting standoffs, which is why they should make use of their mobility and long range to keep out of the enemy missile units´ sights. Their poisoned arrows help offset their low armor piercing values due to lowering the targets´ vigor, which in turn will gradually lower its armor value. Should their ammunition run out before the battle is finished, they are still good melee fighters.
